THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
GENERAL POLICIES
Riverside College provides various scholarship grants to enable academically qualified but financially challenged students obtain a college education and become competent professionals and productive members of society.
Scholarship grants are awarded on the merit of academic performance and extent of financial need, and are non-transferable.
Applicants are interviewed by the Admissions and Scholarships Officer, and those who pass the initial screening are recommended to the Scholarships Committee for further evaluation and selection.
The President assesses the recommendations of the Scholarships Committee and makes the final approval.
To retain the scholarship grant, grantees are expected to maintain a cumulative weighted grade average (CWGA) and a minimum grade per subject as specifically stipulated in the grant they qualified for.
The Cumulative Weighted Grade Average (CWGA) is computed by multiplying each subject grade by its corresponding number of units, and dividing the sum of all weighted grades by the total number of units taken. The computation of the CWGA does not include Guidance; however, grantees are expected to obtain a passing mark to retain their scholarship grants.
In addition to the other conditions stipulated in their specific scholarship grants, grantees are not allowed to drop, incur an incomplete grade or get a failing grade in any subject. They should not at any time be subject to any disciplinary sanction for the duration of their scholarship.
Grantees who fail to meet the conditions of their grants in any semester or summer term will be automatically dropped from the roster of scholarship grantees, and may no longer appeal for reconsideration, nor apply for another type of scholarship grant.
In the event that an applicant qualifies for two or more scholarship grants, he/she shall have the option to choose the grant with better benefits. The student cannot enjoy the benefits of two or more scholarship grants at the same time.
